Bicycles, E-Bikes & Micromobility calculator

Vehicle Packaging Cost Calculator

Packaging cost includes cartons, inserts, foam, molded pulp, straps, manuals, labels, pallets, hazmat markings, battery labels, and pack-out labor or tooling. Operations and finance teams use it to compare direct-to-consumer, dealer, fleet, and replacement-part packaging options.

What this calculator does

  • Estimate bicycle, e-bike, scooter, or component packaging cost from packed unit count, package cost, allocation share, and fixed pack-out adders.
  • a micromobility team needs to cost packaging for finished vehicles, batteries, chargers, frames, wheelsets, or service kits
  • Returns estimated packaging cost for the selected vehicle, battery, component, or service-kit lot.

Formula used

  • Allocated variable packaging cost = packed vehicles or kits × packaging cost per unit × packaging allocation share
  • Total vehicle packaging cost = allocated variable packaging cost + fixed packaging setup cost

Inputs explained

  • Packed vehicles or kits: Use boxed bikes, e-bikes, scooters, battery packs, wheelsets, chargers, parts kits, or fleet service bundles.
  • Packaging cost per unit: Include cartons, inserts, protective wrap, labels, manuals, pallets, straps, and pack-out consumables.
  • Packaging allocation share: Use 100% for the full lot or allocate a share to a SKU, region, sales channel, or customer program.
  • Fixed packaging setup cost: Add die charges, artwork, ISTA testing, label setup, tooling, sample cartons, or special compliance markings.

How to use the result

  • Use it for quote costing, packaging redesign, channel comparison, launch builds, and freight damage reduction projects.
  • It does not calculate freight dimensional weight, damage probability, or lithium battery shipping compliance by itself.

Common questions

  • Should packaging labor be included? Include pack-out labor if your cost model treats it as packaging cost; otherwise keep it in assembly labor.
  • Can this compare DTC and dealer packaging? Yes. Run separate scenarios for each channel because carton size, protection, labels, and pack-out work often differ.
  • Where do battery shipping labels go? Include labels and hazmat documentation cost in per-unit packaging or fixed setup depending on how they are purchased.
  • How can I use the result? Use it to update cost per vehicle, justify packaging tests, or choose between reusable, dealer, fleet, and DTC pack-outs.
