• Agents are first-class citizens here: MCP at /api/mcp, A2A at /.well-known/agent-card.json, and keyless plain GET on every data endpoint. • Start with the initialize handshake over streamable HTTP, then use tools/list for discovery; every tool's entry carries a runnable try example that the test suite executes so it cannot go stale. The ask tool answers a natural-language question from the site's live data in one call and returns followups for chaining.
• Every reply states its outcome (answered, needs-input, needs-clarification, invalid-input, unsupported, related-resource) and whether it fulfilled the request. When the answer needs the caller's next move, pass the context token from that reply back unchanged; it retains the confirmed subject, country, period and calculator inputs.
• Data answers carry their period, source and measured freshness, and ?asOf= recovers a series as it stood on any past date. If a question names a dimension this platform has no data for, the reply says so (unsupported) rather than substituting something adjacent.
• Workbooks for the calculators are published at /api/workbook/<slug>.xlsx, and the calculator API (/api/calc) can search, describe and run all 5,000+ tools with the workbook link in the description. Poll politely: /api/whats-new, /changes.xml, /feed.xml and the MCP get_change_events stream tell you exactly what moved instead of re-crawling.
