Pallet Pattern Efficiency Calculator

Pallet pattern efficiency tells you how fully a robotic or manual palletizer uses the available pallet footprint, expressed as the cases actually stacked divided by the geometric maximum the deck and overhang allowance permit. Packaging engineers, palletizer integrators, and end-of-line supervisors track it because every empty square inch on a 48x40 GMA pallet rides as air on a truck and inflates freight cost per case. A pattern that leaves cubes unfilled also destabilizes the load, raising the risk of lean and transit damage. Getting close to the footprint maximum is the cheapest way to cut shipping spend without changing the product.

  • How do you calculate pallet pattern efficiency? Divide the cases placed per pallet by the maximum cases the footprint allows, then multiply by 100. With 48 cases placed against a 50-case footprint maximum, efficiency is 48 / 50 x 100 = 96%.
