Delivery SLA Attainment Calculator

Delivery SLA attainment is the percentage of shipments that met their promised service-level agreement, whether that is a delivery-date window, a transit-time commitment or an on-time-in-full standard. Logistics managers, carrier-performance analysts and customer-success teams use it to hold carriers accountable, protect customer commitments and trigger penalty or bonus clauses in transportation contracts. A single point of attainment can be worth serious money when chargebacks and lost reorders are on the line. This calculator returns both your attainment rate and the gap to your target so you know exactly how far you are from the commitment you signed.

What this calculator does

  • Calculate the share of deliveries meeting the committed service level agreement and the gap to the customer or internal SLA target.
  • Use it for customer scorecards, carrier reviews, route planning, and service recovery decisions.
  • It computes the delivery SLA attainment rate as deliveries meeting SLA divided by total SLA deliveries, and the point gap to your target.

Formula used

  • Delivery SLA Attainment rate = deliveries meeting sla ÷ total sla deliveries × 100
  • Gap to target = target sla attainment - delivery sla attainment rate

Inputs explained

  • Deliveries meeting SLA:
  • Total SLA deliveries:
  • Target SLA attainment:

How to use the result

  • Use it in weekly or monthly carrier scorecards, QBR prep, or when validating whether a lane is breaching its contractual on-time commitment.
  • It measures on-time count only; it does not weight by shipment value, customer tier or how badly a late delivery missed the window.

Current U.S. benchmarks

  • On-highway diesel averages $4.58 per gallon this week (EIA), trending down over recent periods. Truck tonnage is up 3.4% year over year (ATA via FRED).

Common questions

  • How do you calculate delivery SLA attainment? Divide deliveries meeting SLA by total SLA deliveries and multiply by 100. With 1,150 of 1,200 deliveries on time, attainment is 95.83%, which is 2.17 points short of a 98% target.
  • What is a good delivery SLA attainment rate? Most shippers set targets of 95-98%, and premium or medical lanes push to 99%+. At 95.83% against a 98% goal, the example is underperforming and the 2.17-point gap would likely trigger a corrective-action conversation.
  • What is the difference between SLA attainment and on-time delivery? On-time delivery usually means delivered by the promise date; SLA attainment measures against the specific contracted service window, which may include an in-full or appointment-compliance condition. They often move together but SLA attainment is the contractually enforceable figure.
  • How do I close the gap to my SLA target? Attack the failure modes behind the misses: carrier tender rejections, dock and appointment delays, and mode or transit mismatches. In the example, recovering just 27 more of the 1,200 deliveries would close the 2.17-point gap to 98%.
  • Why does the calculator show a gap to target? The gap converts abstract percentages into an actionable delta. A 2.17-point gap tells you both that you are behind and, combined with your volume, how many deliveries you need to recover to hit the commitment.
