Packaging Automation & End-of-Line Systems calculator
Palletizing Batch Time Calculator
Estimate elapsed time from setup to placement of the final case. Enter the qualified stacking rate, cases per pallet and time lost at each intervening pallet change.
What this calculator does
- Estimate palletizing batch duration from case rate, pallet capacity and intervening change time.
Formula used
- Pallets started = cases ÷ cases per pallet, rounded up
- Intervening changes = maximum of pallets started − 1 and zero
- Batch minutes = cases ÷ running rate + changes × change time + setup
- Batch hours = batch minutes ÷ 60
Inputs explained
- Cases to Palletize: Whole cases placed during this batch.
- Qualified Stacking Rate: Feasible running rate for the selected tooling and pallet pattern.
- Cases per Pallet: Whole cases in each complete qualified pallet pattern.
- Pallet Change Time: Elapsed interruption between a full pallet and its replacement.
- Initial Setup Time: Elapsed setup before the first case is placed.
How to use the result
- Best suited to palletizing batch scheduling, pallet change improvement.
- Excludes final pallet discharge, wrapping and downstream transfer. Does not establish robot reach, payload or safety suitability.
Current U.S. benchmarks
- The producer price index for plastic resins and materials stands at 280.569 (BLS, Aug 2026), up 6.6% from a year earlier. Quotes priced off last quarter's material cost miss this move.
- The producer price index for paper (not a paperboard or container index) stands at 282.266 (BLS, Aug 2026), up 10% from a year earlier. Quotes priced off last quarter's material cost miss this move.
Common questions
- Why is there one fewer pallet change? The first empty pallet is already present. Only replacements between pallets interrupt the modeled batch.
- What happens with zero cases? Only the entered initial setup remains. No pallets are started and no pallet changes are charged.
- Can one robot pick several cases? Yes. Enter the resulting qualified case rate, including that picking arrangement, rather than the robot pick rate.
- Is final pallet removal included? No. This clock ends when the final case is placed. Add final handling separately if your production schedule needs it.
