  • How do you calculate total vehicle rework cost? Multiply units reworked by average cost per unit by the allocation share, then add fixed containment cost. Here 140 units x $42 x 100% gives $5,880 variable, plus $1,800 fixed = $7,680 total.
  • What is the rework cost allocation share? It's the percent of per-unit rework cost charged to this event. Use 100% when the whole rework is caused by this defect; use less when cost is shared with another job or absorbed elsewhere.
  • What's the difference between variable and fixed rework cost? Variable cost scales with units reworked (labor and parts per bike). Fixed containment cost — sorting, travel, line stoppage, expedited freight — is incurred once regardless of unit count, $1,800 in the example.
