Blow Molding & Hollow Plastic Products calculator
Cooling Time Budget Calculator
Find the cooling time available within a planned complete cycle. Subtract measured nonoverlapping operations and compare the remainder with your qualified minimum cooling hold.
What this calculator does
- Check the cooling time left inside a planned blow molding cycle against a separately qualified minimum.
Formula used
- Available cooling time = planned cycle − sequential noncooling time
- Cooling margin = available cooling time − qualified minimum cooling
- Minimum complete cycle = sequential noncooling time + qualified minimum cooling
Inputs explained
- Planned Complete Cycle: Target repeat interval for one mold station.
- Sequential Noncooling Time: Measured opening, capture and handling intervals outside cooling.
- Qualified Minimum Cooling Time: Validated minimum hold for this part and cooling conditions.
How to use the result
- Best suited to cycle reduction review, qualified cooling hold check.
- Does not predict demold temperature, wall cooling or crystallization. Rotary station overlap requires timing on the same mold station.
Current U.S. benchmarks
- The producer price index for plastic resins and materials stands at 280.569 (BLS, Aug 2026), up 6.6% from a year earlier. Quotes priced off last quarter's material cost miss this move.
- The U.S. has 9,635 plastics product manufacturing establishments employing about 677,302 workers (Census County Business Patterns, 2023).
Common questions
- Where does the minimum cooling time come from? Use validated production trials for the same resin, wall profile, coolant and release criteria. It is an input, not a universal material constant.
- Can blowing and cooling happen at the same time? Yes. Count an overlapping interval once. The noncooling input contains only time outside the qualified cooling exposure.
- Does enough time guarantee a stable container? No. Cooling distribution, coolant condition and thick sections still affect release and later dimensions.
- Can I enter the entire rotary index interval? Only if it represents the same mold station and timing boundary. Several molds can cool while another station loads or ejects.
