HVAC Ductwork, Air Handling & Mechanical Products calculator
Air Handler Quote Price Calculator
Price an air-handler order at your chosen gross margin. Enter total direct cost, allocated overhead, whole assemblies and margin on selling price.
What this calculator does
- Price an air-handler order at your chosen gross margin.
Formula used
- Job cost = Direct cost + Allocated overhead
- Quote = Job cost ÷ (1 − Gross margin % ÷ 100)
- Unit price = Quote ÷ Quoted assemblies
- Gross profit = Quote − Job cost
Inputs explained
- Total Direct Job Cost: Total material and direct labor cost for the quoted scope.
- Allocated Job Overhead: Overhead and fixed order costs excluded from direct cost.
- Quoted Assemblies: Whole deliverable assemblies covered by the quote.
- Target Gross Margin: Desired gross profit as a percentage of selling price.
How to use the result
- Best suited to air handler quotes, gross margin comparisons.
- Taxes, commercial terms and charges outside the entered cost scope are excluded.
Current U.S. benchmarks
- Industrial electricity averages 9.77 cents per kWh across the U.S. (EIA, Jul 2026), up 4.7% from a year earlier. Energy-intensive steps carry this directly into unit cost.
- U.S. housing starts run at 1,275k per year (Census, Aug 2026), down 1.2% from a year earlier, the demand driver for building products.
Common questions
- Is gross margin the same as markup? No. Margin divides profit by selling price; markup divides profit by cost.
- Where do fixed order costs belong? Include them once in direct cost or allocated overhead according to your costing policy.
- Why must margin stay below 100%? A positive-cost quote cannot achieve 100% gross margin at a finite price.
- Can zero cost be entered? Yes. The arithmetic returns zero price; verify that a zero-cost scope is intentional.
