Industrial Cleaning, Washing & Parts Cleanliness calculator
Measured Residue Loading Calculator
Normalize accepted residue mass to 100 square centimeters of sampled surface. Enter the represented area and the applicable qualified mass limit.
What this calculator does
- Compare measured gravimetric residue loading with an entered qualified surface-area limit.
Formula used
- Residue loading = Residue mass × 100 ÷ Sampled area
- Loading margin = Qualified limit − Residue loading
- Allowed mass = Qualified limit × Sampled area ÷ 100
- Mass margin = Allowed mass − Measured residue mass
Inputs explained
- Accepted Residue Mass: Measured residue accepted under the qualified blank and extraction method.
- Sampled Surface Area: Component area represented by this accepted residue measurement.
- Qualified Residue Limit: Applicable gravimetric limit from the approved cleanliness specification.
How to use the result
- Best suited to gravimetric cleanliness reviews, residue specification comparisons.
- This does not certify particle-size limits, a lot or the measurement method.
Current U.S. benchmarks
- U.S. manufacturing runs at 75.7% of capacity (Federal Reserve, Aug 2026). New factory orders are up 8.5% year over year (Census).
Common questions
- Does the calculator subtract the blank? No. Enter residue mass accepted under your qualified method after resolving its blank-study requirements.
- Can a passing mass result certify cleanliness? No. Particle size, particle count and other specified criteria may fail even when mass loading meets its limit.
- What does a negative margin mean? The measured loading exceeds the entered qualified gravimetric limit by that amount.
- Can the qualified limit be zero? Yes. Any positive accepted residue then exceeds the limit; no percentage-of-zero ratio is calculated.
