Bottling, Canning & Filling Lines calculator
Cap Requirement Calculator
Estimate the caps needed for a planned good order using whole trial counts. Enter issued and rejected trial caps plus a separate setup allowance.
What this calculator does
- Plan whole cap issue quantities from observed trial yield and a separate startup allowance.
Formula used
- Trial yield = (Trial issued − Trial rejected) ÷ Trial issued
- Production caps = CEILING(Planned good bottles × Trial issued ÷ (Trial issued − Trial rejected))
- Total requirement = Production caps + Separate setup caps
- Yield allowance = Production caps − Planned good bottles
Inputs explained
- Planned Good Capped Bottles: Required accepted capped bottles after trial-based application losses.
- Trial Caps Issued: Whole caps issued during the representative application trial.
- Trial Caps Rejected: Issued trial caps lost or rejected within that same trial.
- Additional Setup Caps: Separate startup allowance excluded from the measured trial yield.
How to use the result
- Best suited to cap issue planning, trial yield comparisons.
- Each input is limited to one billion whole units; products and total caps to one trillion. Historical yield is a planning assumption, not an order-completion guarantee.
Common questions
- Why is the allowance not called expected rejects? The excess includes whole-cap rounding reserve as well as the trial-yield allowance, so it is not an expected reject count.
- How are exact ratios handled? Bounded integer arithmetic preserves exact requirements, including 21 good bottles at a 7-of-10 yield requiring exactly 30 production caps.
- Does setup belong in the trial rejects? Keep the extra setup allowance separate from the representative production yield. Do not charge the same startup losses twice.
- Can a zero order need caps? Yes. Zero planned good bottles retain only the explicitly entered separate setup allowance.
