Bottling, Canning & Filling Lines calculator
Closure Usage Reconciliation Calculator
Measure the unexplained closure balance within one production window. Enter issued stock, unused returns, good closed containers, samples and unit value.
What this calculator does
- Reconcile issued closures with returns, accepted containers and retained samples.
Formula used
- Net closures withdrawn = Issued closures − Returned closures
- Unexplained variance = Net withdrawn − Good containers − Sample closures
- Signed variance value = Unexplained variance × Closure unit value
Inputs explained
- Closures Issued: Whole closures issued within this reconciliation window.
- Closures Returned: Unused issued closures returned inside the same stock boundary.
- Good Closed Containers: Whole accepted containers with one closure from issued stock.
- Closures Used for Samples: Closures assigned to samples outside the good-container count.
- Closure Unit Value: Consistent inventory value applied to the unexplained variance.
How to use the result
- Best suited to closure inventory reconciliation, packaging variance reviews.
- Carryover and work-in-process changes must be reconciled separately.
Common questions
- What does a negative variance mean? More closures are explained by output and samples than by net withdrawal. Check opening carryover, transfers and count periods.
- Is a positive variance proven scrap? No. The difference may include unrecorded samples, stock changes or other uses as well as physical waste.
- Can samples also be counted as good containers? Not in this balance. Separate sample closures from the accepted-container count to avoid double counting.
- Is variance value a cash loss? It is the signed stock difference valued at your unit price. Confirm the actual disposition before booking a loss.
