Industrial Filtration, Separation & Dust Collection calculator
Measured Emissions Capture Rate Calculator
Check how much generated contaminant reaches the control system. Enter a matched process mass balance and the source-capture target for that test.
What this calculator does
- Check how much generated contaminant reaches the control system.
Formula used
- Source capture % = Mass entering control system × 100 ÷ Mass generated
- Uncaptured mass = Generated mass − Captured mass
- Target shortfall = Required capture − Measured capture
Inputs explained
- Contaminant Captured at Source: Mass entering the control system from the defined process.
- Contaminant Generated by Process: Matched total generated mass before hood capture.
- Required Source Capture: Capture target specified for this process and test.
How to use the result
- Best suited to hood capture test reviews, source mass balances.
- The result is not an emissions compliance or exposure determination.
Common questions
- Is capture the same as collection efficiency? No. Capture reaches the control device; collection removes contaminant from the stream inside that device.
- Can I use dust-bin weight as captured mass? Not directly. It excludes material that entered the collector but escaped or remained in its inventory.
- Why require captured mass below generated mass? A larger value indicates inconsistent boundaries, stored-material release or measurement error.
- Does high capture establish worker exposure? No. Exposure requires an appropriate occupational sampling assessment.
