Industrial Filtration, Separation & Dust Collection calculator
Measured Cyclone Collection Efficiency Calculator
Measure a cyclone’s overall dry-solids collection efficiency. Enter captured and inlet mass from the same test and your specified efficiency target.
What this calculator does
- Measure a cyclone’s overall dry-solids collection efficiency.
Formula used
- Collection efficiency % = Captured dry solids × 100 ÷ Inlet dry solids
- Uncaptured solids = Inlet solids − Captured solids
- Target shortfall = Required efficiency − Measured efficiency
Inputs explained
- Captured Dry Solids: Recovered dry solids over the complete test window.
- Inlet Dry Solids: Measured incoming dry solids in the same test.
- Required Collection Efficiency: Performance target specified for the tested solids mixture.
How to use the result
- Best suited to cyclone acceptance tests, matched solids balances.
- Overall mass efficiency does not establish fine-particle or exposure compliance.
Common questions
- Can captured mass exceed inlet mass? No. Check moisture, inventory release and the test window if the balance produces that result.
- Does 90% overall efficiency mean 90% for every particle size? No. Cyclones collect different particle sizes with different efficiencies.
- Can I compare wet and dry weights? No. Correct both measurements to a consistent dry-solids basis first.
- What does a negative shortfall mean? Measured overall collection exceeds the target you entered.
