Bottling, Canning & Filling Lines calculator
Packaging Scrap Cost Calculator
Value a defined scrapped-container population and its handling costs. Enter gross write-off value before recovery, separate labor and disposal charges, and one salvage credit.
What this calculator does
- Calculate net cost for containers whose product and package are actually scrapped.
Formula used
- Handling cost = Handling person-hours × Labor rate
- Gross scrap cost = Scrapped containers × Gross write-off + Handling + Disposal
- Net scrap cost = Gross scrap cost − Salvage credit
Inputs explained
- Containers Actually Scrapped: Whole containers whose contents and packaging are written off.
- Gross Write-Off per Container: Gross product and package loss before separate recovery credits.
- Scrap Handling Labor: Total person-hours handling this scrapped population.
- Burdened Handling Labor Rate: Per-person labor rate for the handling work.
- Additional Disposal Charges: Disposal charges excluded from unit write-off and handling labor.
- Single Salvage Credit: Recovery value credited once against the gross scrap expense.
How to use the result
- Best suited to confirmed packaging scrap reviews, scrap recovery reconciliation.
- Recoverable rejects and completed rework need a different incremental-loss calculation.
Common questions
- Should every rejected container be counted? No. Count only confirmed scrap. Products diverted for inspection or rework may retain their value.
- Can the unit value already include salvage? No. Enter gross write-off before recovery, then apply the separate salvage credit once.
- Does gross write-off include handling labor? Exclude labor and disposal charges entered separately here; otherwise those costs would be counted twice.
- Why can the net cost be negative? An entered recovery credit can exceed the selected gross expense. Reconcile its timing, population and accounting scope.
