Bulk Density Feed Adjustment Calculator
Adjust volumetric delivery to retain a reference mass-flow target after a density change. Enter reference volume rate and the two measured bulk densities.
What this calculator does
- Adjust volumetric delivery to retain a reference mass-flow target after a density change.
Formula used
- Target mass flow = Reference volume rate × Reference density
- Adjusted volume rate = Target mass flow ÷ Current density
- Uncorrected mass flow = Reference volume rate × Current density
Inputs explained
- Reference Volumetric Rate: Qualified volume rate at the reference material condition.
- Reference Bulk Density: Measured density corresponding to the reference volume rate.
- Current Bulk Density: Density representative of the current metering condition.
How to use the result
- Best suited to raw material lot changes, volumetric feed adjustments.
- Volume requirement does not directly specify motor speed or controller calibration.
Common questions
- Why does lower density require higher volume? Each liter contains less mass, so more liters are needed for the same mass flow.
- Can I use solid material density? Use bulk density including voids between particles, representative of the feeder condition.
- What happens at zero reference flow? The reference mass flow, adjusted volume rate and uncorrected mass flow are all zero. A density change alone does not create material flow.
- Will a gravimetric feeder need this manual correction? Its control loop generally adjusts based on mass loss, but qualified operation and refill behavior still need verification.
