Weighing, Dosing & Loss-in-Weight Feeding calculator
Signed Dosing Error Calculator
Compare a weighed dose with its recipe target. Enter the delivered mass, target mass and allowed absolute percentage error.
What this calculator does
- Compare a weighed dose with its recipe target.
Formula used
- Dose error = Delivered mass − Target mass
- Signed error % = Dose error × 100 ÷ Target mass
- Error margin = Allowed error % − Abs(Signed error %)
Inputs explained
- Delivered Net Dose: Tared dose mass measured with the reference balance.
- Target Dose: Specified mass for this individual dose.
- Maximum Absolute Dose Error: Symmetric percentage tolerance from the approved recipe.
How to use the result
- Best suited to single dose verification, recipe tolerance checks.
- Does not estimate repeatability, balance uncertainty or regulatory compliance.
Common questions
- Why is the error signed? The sign distinguishes overfeed from underfeed, which can require different corrections.
- What is the percentage denominator? The recipe target is the denominator, so a one-gram error on a hundred-gram target equals one percent.
- Is the display resolution the measurement uncertainty? No. Calibration, repeatability and environmental effects also contribute to uncertainty.
- Can several doses be averaged? An average can describe bias, but individual failures and repeatability need the individual dose results.
