Available datasets
- U.S. Manufacturing Pulse Index: Composite monthly index of U.S. manufacturing conditions built from federal series covering demand, labor, materials, and energy, with pillar scores, diffusion, momentum, and a five-year monthly history. Cadence: Monthly, refreshed automatically as agencies publish. Computed from FRED, BLS, EIA, and Census series; methodology at /methodology.
- U.S. Manufacturing Cost & Activity Series Archive: 64 live economic series relevant to manufacturing: energy prices, fuels, metals and PPI, labor, factory demand, trade flows, rates, and FX, each with its archived observation history and a /data detail page. Cadence: Daily to monthly by series, refreshed automatically. Sourced from EIA, BLS, FRED, and Census APIs; every series page cites its agency release.
- U.S. Manufacturing Tariff Monitor: Statutory HTS duty rates and observed effective calculated-duty rates (USITC reported calculated duty / covered customs value) for 57 manufacturing input and equipment families spanning 1,482 tariff lines: month-by-month rates plus per-country import breakdowns. Reference data, not a customs ruling or entry-specific rate. Cadence: Statutory rates and policy feed daily, effective rates monthly, refreshed automatically. Sourced from the USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule and DataWeb APIs; every family page at /tariffs cites both releases.
- U.S. Manufacturing Effective-Tariff Index: The observed U.S. manufacturing effective calculated-duty rate, USITC reported calculated duty divided by covered customs value, over a constant manufacturing panel, monthly since 2014 and rebased to an index (base = 100). A citable, redistributable benchmark for the reported tariff burden in the tracked panel, not an entry-specific cash-payment measure. Cadence: Monthly, refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. Derived entirely from USITC DataWeb public-domain customs data, so unlike the Pulse Index it is free to redistribute; full method at /data/us-manufacturing-effective-tariff-index.
- U.S. Manufacturing Calculated-Duty Estimate: USITC reported calculated-duty dollars across a constant 57-family manufacturing panel, monthly since 2014, with the annual total broken out by product family. This is neither verified cash paid nor total U.S. customs revenue: it covers the tracked manufacturing panel only. Cadence: Monthly, refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. Derived entirely from USITC DataWeb public-domain calculated-duty data; the dollar counterpart to the Effective-Tariff Index. Full method at /signals/tariff-bill.
- U.S. Manufacturing Tariff Dollars by Country: USITC reported calculated-duty dollars by origin country across one common year of the tracked U.S. manufacturing panel, with each country's customs value, observed burden, and per-year trend. These are source-attributed statistical totals, not a claim about who economically bears or remits the tariff. Cadence: Monthly, refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. Duties by origin from USITC DataWeb per-family source boards; totals are a floor. Full method at /signals/who-pays.
- U.S. Manufacturing Source-Mix Shift Since 2018: For eligible tracked U.S. manufacturing import families, how the observed foreign sourcing mix changed from exactly 2018 to the latest reported year: the #1 source then versus now, China's reported share change, and the largest observed gainer among countries present in both endpoints. Missing country rows are unknown, not zero; the result is descriptive, not causal. Cadence: Monthly, refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. Country shares from USITC DataWeb per-family, per-country import boards; only families with an exact 2018 endpoint and reported China rows at both endpoints qualify. Full method at /signals/source-shifts.
- Observed Effective-Rate Step and Import-Value Change: For every eligible tracked U.S. manufacturing family whose trailing-12-month effective calculated-duty rate showed an observed increase of at least 5 points, the associated customs-value change: the year before versus a full 12-month window after. This is statistical co-movement, not a verified legal-action match or causal estimate; the metric is declared customs value, not volume. Cadence: Monthly, refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. From USITC DataWeb per-family monthly customs value and calculated duty. Observational, not causal; value, not volume. Full method at /signals/tariff-effect.
- Sourcing Diversification Tracker: U.S. Manufacturing Import Concentration: The named-source Herfindahl-Hirschman Index floor (HHI, 0-10000) for every tracked U.S. manufacturing family, base (2018 where available, else the first tracked year) versus latest, with retained-board endpoint coverage and the direction of the floor move. Incomplete endpoints do not establish full-market direction. Cadence: Annual per year, refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. From USITC DataWeb per-family, per-country annual customs value. Each row publishes retained-board coverage; named-source HHI and its threshold band are lower bounds when incomplete. Full method at /signals/diversification.
- Customs Unit-Value Movers: U.S. Manufacturing: For eligible tracked U.S. manufacturing families with one consistent quantity unit, aggregate customs unit value (declared customs value / reported quantity) and its change over one common adjacent-year pair, ranked by absolute move with effective-rate context. Not a transaction price or causal pass-through measure. Cadence: Annual per year, refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. Customs unit value = declared customs value / reported quantity from USITC DataWeb; an aggregate across a family's lines and origins, not a transaction or quoted market price. Full method at /signals/import-prices.
- MFN-Free and Reciprocal-Preference HTS Line Coverage: For every tracked U.S. manufacturing family, the unweighted share of HTS lines whose General rate is literally Free and the additional share carrying a Free rate under a named reciprocal preference program. Chapter 99 references are flagged for review, not treated as proven applicable overlays; no final entry duty is determined. Cadence: With each USITC HTS revision, refreshed automatically. From USITC HTS General and Special rate fields plus Chapter 99 references. Program eligibility and Chapter 99 applicability depend on entry facts. Reference data, not a customs ruling. Full method at /signals/duty-free-routes.
- Manufacturing Wage Board: Factory Pay by Trade and State: Factory pay across the core U.S. manufacturing trades: the BLS OEWS median hourly wage per trade with its highest- and lowest-paying state and geographic spread, a per-state wage index against the national median, and the manufacturing average-hourly-earnings pressure trend. Cadence: Annual OEWS medians with a monthly wage-pressure trend, refreshed automatically. BLS OEWS medians and CES manufacturing earnings; medians are a survey-year snapshot, not cost-of-living adjusted. Full method at /signals/wage-board.
- MFG Calcs Forecasts: Six-Month Outlook for Every Live Series: A six-month statistical forecast for every live U.S. manufacturing series that clears the backtest gate: market prices, producer prices, energy, rates, trade flows, and factory demand, each with a central path, an 80% prediction band, and its out-of-sample backtest error (MAPE). Damped Holt-Winters extrapolation, not a market forecast. Cadence: Monthly, refreshed automatically as the underlying federal series update. Forecast by MFG Calcs (damped Holt-Winters) over U.S. federal open data. Statistical extrapolation, not a market forecast. Full board at /signals/forecasts.
- MFG Calcs Manufacturing Cost Pressure Index (MCPI): One deterministic index of the input-cost pressure a U.S. manufacturer faces, base month = 100, joining five live drivers — materials (input PPIs), labor (factory earnings), energy (electricity and natural gas), tariffs (the effective-rate multiplier), and the import dollar (an import-weighted FX index) — with an exact year-over-year component decomposition. Frozen, reproducible methodology. Cadence: Refreshed automatically whenever the underlying series update. An illustrative composite on a frozen, documented methodology, not an official statistic. Built from U.S. federal open data (BLS, EIA, FRED) plus the MFG Calcs effective tariff rate. Full index at /signals/cost-pressure-index.
- MFG Calcs Input Cost Diffusion Index (ICDI): The breadth of manufacturing input-cost increases: a classic diffusion index over a frozen basket of 16 input-cost series (input PPIs, industrial electricity, natural gas, factory earnings). 50 is balance; above 50 means broad-based cost increases. Year-over-year and month-over-month, plus each input's direction. Cadence: Refreshed automatically whenever the underlying series update. Built from BLS and EIA public-domain series over a frozen constant basket. Breadth, not magnitude; pairs with the Cost Pressure Index. Full index at /signals/input-cost-diffusion.
- MFG Calcs Supply Chain Fragility Index: A branded 0-100 supply-chain fragility score floor for 57 manufacturing import families, decomposed into a named-source HHI floor, single-country dependence, tariff exposure, and top-source currency volatility, plus a manufacturing-wide headline floor and high/low reported-floor lists. Cadence: Refreshed automatically as the tariff and econ data update. An illustrative composite on a frozen methodology, built from USITC and FRED public data. Named-source concentration is a lower bound against the DOJ/FTC HHI line, so the composite and band are minimum readings; a low floor is not proof of resilience. Full board at /signals/supply-chain-fragility.
- MFG Calcs State Cost-to-Manufacture Index: What it costs to manufacture in each U.S. state, national average = 100 (higher = costlier), blending the state manufacturing-wage index (75%) and industrial electricity vs national (25%). 50 states and DC ranked, with the cheapest and priciest. Cadence: Refreshed automatically whenever the wage and electricity data update. An illustrative composite of two live cost factors (BLS wages, EIA industrial electricity), not a full site-selection model (excludes taxes, land, incentives). Full board at /signals/state-cost-index.
- MFG Calcs Cost Pass-Through Index: How much of an upstream raw-materials cost move shows up in downstream fabricated-goods prices, and with what lag: the best-fitting lag (0-6 months), the pass-through coefficient, the correlation, and the input inflation not yet passed through. Cadence: Refreshed automatically whenever the producer price data updates. A statistical relationship over BLS producer price indexes, not a causal claim or firm-level margins. Full index at /signals/cost-pass-through.
- MFG Calcs PMI: A free, open, reproducible Purchasing Managers' Index for U.S. manufacturing where 50 is the expansion/contraction line: the headline reading and full monthly history, its month-over-month change, a 3-month average, the expansion or contraction streak, and the five equal-weighted components (New Orders, Production, Employment, Supplier Deliveries, Inventories). Each history row carries a final/provisional status: a provisional month is a preliminary reading over the components published so far and is revised when the rest report. Cadence: Refreshed automatically whenever the underlying federal data updates. An illustrative hard-data diffusion index modeled on the proprietary ISM and S&P Global PMIs, built from public Census, Federal Reserve, and BLS series. Full index at /signals/pmi.
- MFG Calcs Reshoring Break-Even Line: For each matched manufacturing family, an indexed crossover rate under assumed base-year price parity, compared with the observed effective calculated-duty rate. The gap is indicative, not an absolute domestic-versus-import dollar-cost result or a legal-rate determination. Cadence: Refreshed automatically as the tariff and producer price data update. An indicative signal that assumes base-year price parity (no domestic dollar-per-unit cost exists); import unit values shift with product mix. USITC and BLS public data. Full board at /signals/reshoring-break-even.
- MFG Calcs Observed Effective-Rate Movement Ledger: A chronological record of statistical moves in the tracked panel's monthly effective calculated-duty rate since 2014, with import customs value and reported calculated-duty changes before and after each episode. Episodes are not matched to statutes, proclamations, exclusions, or legal effective dates, and the series is not seasonally adjusted. Cadence: Refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. Derived from the MFG Calcs monthly effective-rate aggregate over USITC DataWeb. An association, not causation: import customs value moves for many reasons and can be price or quantity. Full ledger at /signals/tariff-action-ledger.
- Forecast Accuracy Ledger: How Our Manufacturing Forecasts Have Actually Done: The self-graded track record of the MFG Calcs deterministic forecaster: aggregate one-step-ahead out-of-sample error across every published forecast's walk-forward backtest, the directional hit rate, accuracy by category, and the most- and least-accurate series. Cadence: Refreshed automatically whenever the forecasts update. Self-graded from the same walk-forward backtests the forecast pages render. One-step-ahead out-of-sample; error compounds with horizon. Full ledger at /signals/forecast-accuracy.
- U.S. Manufacturing Source-Country Import-Burden Comparison: For every tracked manufacturing family, each retained source country's observed calculated-duty and freight burden, retained-board share, named-source concentration floor (HHI), coverage, and an FX direction overlay. Supplier-level landed-cost rankings are pending until at least two lanes have complete country-specific unit values. 57 families across hundreds of lanes. Cadence: Monthly, refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. Duty and freight from USITC DataWeb; FX drift from Federal Reserve H.10. A sourcing indicator, not a customs quote. Per-family CSVs at /landed-cost/<family>.
- Reshoring Readiness Index: A transparent 0-100 monthly reported score floor per manufacturing import family: 0.45 x tariff pressure + 0.30 x import dependence + 0.25 x named-source concentration floor, with retained-board coverage and lower-bound flags published. 57 families with histories back to 2014. Cadence: Monthly, refreshed automatically as USITC posts new customs data. Derived entirely from USITC DataWeb public-domain customs data; leaderboard and per-family pages at /reshoring. A screening indicator, not sourcing advice.
- Manufacturing Calculator Catalog: The full catalog of 5,000+ manufacturing calculators with names, categories, URLs, and API endpoints, machine-readable for agents and integrations. Cadence: Updated on every site release. Every calculator is runnable via /api/calc and the MCP server at /api/mcp.
